DICKENS WEEK The Signalman
Read by Clive Frances. The first of four programmes to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Dickens. A signalman on a lonely track of railway receives three phantom warnings when his bell rings in a fashion that only he can hear. Each warning is followed by the appearance of the spectre, and then by a terrible accident. After the third visitation the signalman tells his story to a stranger. |
