The Radio Warneford 35-Hour Marathon Broadcast
Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November

The 35th Anniversary celebrations at Radio Warneford, the hospital broadcasting service based at Warwick Hospital, will reach a climax over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd November with a 35-hour non-stop marathon broadcast to patients and staff.

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Annie Othen, herself a former member of Radio Warneford, will be launching the marathon at 9am on Saturday 22nd and will be co-presenting the first hour of the broadcast. Later in the day, the Town Mayor of Kenilworth, Councillor Spencer Harrison, will be taking to the airwaves with the first of two special Marathon Request Shows featuring record requests from patients and staff. The Town Mayor of Warwick, Councillor Ann Mellor, will be visiting patients and introducing requests in the second Marathon Request Show on Sunday afternoon.

We also have interviews with BBC Midlands Today's Michael Collie, a long-time supporter of Radio Warneford, Roy Joyner from the League of Friends, Max Down from the Wellesbourne Lions and Graeme Meanley MBE, Radio Warneford's Life President, who has worked tirelessly for the station since the early days.

Other highlights include an introduction to the samba and the infectious party music of Brazil. We extend an invitation to the young at heart to board the Good Ship Warneford and meet a few of the most notorious pirates, learn the truth about parrots and walk the plank! Our Wednesday team are performing a Victorian melodrama by Brian J Burton - "One Month To Pay Or The Sailors Return" - and we have a profile of songwriter Thom Bell who was one of the masters of the "Philadephia Sound", hugely popular around the time Radio Warneford began broadcasting. He wrote for the likes of the Delfonics and Dionne Warwick. We take a fascinating trip behind the scenes at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon and enjoy some fantastic live music from Graham & Jooles Hayden, Danny O'Keeffe and Matt Hernandez at a special end-of-Marathon party.

There will be plenty of chances throughout the Marathon for patients and staff to win some wonderful prizes including MP3 players, meals at some of our finest restaurants and shopping vouchers.

Our Request Line will be open for requests and messages for patients throughout the 35-hour Marathon. Just call us on (01926) 401402 at any time and tell us what you would like us to play. Patients can contact the studio for free and take part in competitions from their bedside telephone unit by dialling 4500.

Radio Warneford has received more than £1000 of sponsorship, donations and prizes for the marathon broadcast. We would like to thank everyone for their fantastic support.
