Volunteers' Week 2006

Radio Warneford, the hospital radio service for South Warwickshire, will be celebrating Volunteers' Week from the 1st to 7th June 2006.

Over 28 million people1 are involved in volunteering in the UK every year and Volunteers' Week is an opportunity for organisations like Radio Warneford to publicly recognise the work of their volunteers. It also aims to raise the awareness of the benefits of giving time, inspiring a new generation of volunteers. Volunteers' Week is co-ordinated in England by Volunteering England.

This year's theme is diversity; there are almost as many different types of people volunteering as there are opportunities to volunteer. Diversity means not herding people into quotas, but valuing difference. We are going beyond the stereotypical volunteer to recognising that the older person or youths in hoodies are just as likely to be found helping in the local community.

For more information on how to get involved with Volunteers' Week 2006 go to www.volunteersweek.org.uk.

If you would like to visit Radio Warneford or would like to write a feature on the station as part of Volunteers' Week, please get in touch with the Station Manager.
